3 Day 2 Night Mount Meru Trekking Lake Eyasi, Lake Natron, Serengeti National Park, Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater Experience the adventure of climbing Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak, on this thrilling 3-day trek. Starting from Arusha National Park, this guided hike takes you through lush landscapes rich with wildlife and culminates in a breathtaking sunrise summit.   1. Walking Safari in Arusha National Park:
    • The first day's hike is akin to a walking safari, with opportunities to spot giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, and potentially elephants. An armed ranger accompanies the group to ensure safety amidst the wildlife.
  2. Ngarenanyuki River and Waterfall:
    • Pass by the serene Ngarenanyuki River and witness a beautiful waterfall at the base of Mt. Meru, providing picturesque spots perfect for photography and relaxation during the hike.
  3. Hike to Saddle Hut:
    • Trek through steep pleasant glades and trees to reach Saddle Hut. Optionally, you can take side trips to Little Meru (3,820m) and Rhino Point, offering acclimatization opportunities and splendid panoramic views.
  4. Summit Attempt and Sunrise Views:
    • Begin your summit attempt in the early hours, navigating a steep and rocky trail. Reach the summit of Mt. Meru (4,566m) at sunrise, rewarded with spectacular views of the Mt. Meru Crater, the Ash Tray, and the distant Mt. Kilimanjaro.
  5. Diverse Flora and Fauna:
    • Throughout the trek, experience the diverse ecosystems of Arusha National Park, from lush montane forests to alpine deserts. Encounter unique plant species and observe the rich birdlife that inhabits these varied habitats.

Makamba Hut

Duration: 5-7 hours of hiking

After an early morning breakfast in Arusha (1400m), you will be picked up from your hotel and brought to the Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. At this time, the porters will organize and pack the belongings for the hike while you and your guide register with the Tanzania National Park (TANAPA). You will then begin your ascent in Arusha National Park. The first day of hiking is similar to a walking safari; you should expect to see giraffes, zebras, antelope, buffalo, and potentially elephants near the trail. Due to the high possibility of spotting wildlife, an armed ranger, hired through the National Park, is required to hike with our team for the duration of the hike. As you continue hiking, you will pass the Ngarenanyuki River and a beautiful waterfall at the base of Mt. Meru. Upon arriving to Miriakamba Hut (2500m), your chef will prepare a hot dinner and washing water for you. Enjoy the beautiful sunset and overnight.

Saddle Hut

Duration: 3-5 hours of hiking

After breakfast, trek for 3 hrs 4km to Saddle hut through steep pleasant glades and trees via Buffalo Swamp. Take the side trips to the Little Meru and the Rhino Point[3820m] if you deem fit. Dinner and overnight at the hut.

Summit Attempt

Duration: 12-14 hours of hiking

Your guide will wake you at 00:30 for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit attempt at 1:30am. The trail starts off on a steep grade to Rhino Point (3800m) to Cobra Point (4350m). The last hour of the hike you will scamble on a rocky ridge between the crater and inner cliffs of Meru. You will reach the summit of Meru (4565m) at sunrise with spectacular views of Mt. Meru Ash Tray and Mt. Kilimanjaro. Enjoy your views then descend
