Tour Details

7:00 AM – Departure from Your Lodge in Arusha
- After an early breakfast, your guide picks you up from your hotel or lodge. The drive is short but scenic—banana plantations, villages waking up, and Mount Meru (if she’s not shy) towering in the distance.
- As you get closer to the park, the air shifts—cooler, greener, quieter.
- Optional: Grab a coffee or fresh fruit from a roadside market along the way.
8:00 AM – Arrive at Arusha National Park Gate (Ngongongare Gate)
- Registration takes just a few minutes, and while your guide handles the paperwork, you can stretch your legs and enjoy the soft sounds of the forest around you.
- Already, you might spot blue monkeys, warthogs, or bushbucks near the entrance. You’re not even inside properly, and the adventure has begun.
8:30 AM – Guided Walking Safari (1–2 Hours)
- One of Arusha National Park’s biggest charms is the chance to experience Africa on foot.
- A ranger from TANAPA (Tanzania National Parks) joins you and your guide for a gentle walk through the forest or open plains near the Momella Gate.
- Along the way, you might:
- Walk beside giraffes grazing quietly
- Spot zebras, warthogs, and antelope
- Hear colobus monkeys rustling in the canopy
- Learn about medicinal plants, animal tracks, and local history
- It’s peaceful, grounding, and personal. This isn’t just a photo safari—it’s about being in the wild, not just observing it.
10:30 AM – Game Drive Through the Park
- Hop back into the 4x4 for a relaxed drive through the park's varied landscapes:
- Ngurdoto Crater – A lush, steep-sided caldera often called “Little Ngorongoro”
- Momella Lakes – A chain of shallow, alkaline lakes home to flamingos, hippos, and waterfowl
- Montane forest – Keep an eye out for colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and turacos
- Open savannahs – where you might spot buffalo, giraffes, and even elusive leopards
- The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise—over 400 bird species, including hornbills, fish eagles, and the colorful silvery-cheeked hornbill.
- Note: You won’t find lions here, but that’s part of the park’s beauty—it feels gentler, less rushed, and much more immersive.
1:00 PM – Picnic Lunch at Momella Lakes
- Your guide will find a peaceful spot near the lakes for lunch.
- Settle in at a picnic table with sweeping views, and enjoy your packed lunch—usually including sandwiches, fruit, juice, and maybe a sweet treat.
- Flamingos might be feeding in the lake nearby. Buffalo graze in the distance. And it’s just… quiet.
- Take your time. Breathe. Soak it in.
2:00 PM – Scenic Drive Toward Mount Meru
- After lunch, your guide may take you closer toward the slopes of Mount Meru, the majestic dormant volcano that dominates the park.
- With luck (and clear skies), you'll get stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance, and see waterfalls tumbling down Meru’s lush hillsides.
- You’ll stop where it feels right—for photos, for stories, for moments that don’t show up on Instagram but stay with you.
3:30 PM – Final Wildlife Viewing & Leisurely Drive Out
- Slowly begin the drive back toward the main gate, keeping eyes open for any final wildlife encounters.
- Often, the light in the afternoon gets golden and magical—perfect for those last photos.
4:30 PM – Return to Arusha
- After signing out at the gate, begin the short drive back to Arusha.
- Maybe you doze a little in the car, or maybe you and your guide chat about wildlife, life in Tanzania, or how different this park felt compared to what you imagined.
- Arrive at your hotel by 5:30 PM, just in time for a shower, a cool drink, and dinner.
